SCURA SPLATS - Official Website

To get that pleasant feeling of going onto a stage and then watching the audience watching you as you act out your story, although it has never actually happened to you, is a good reason for doing theatre. You don’t have to have experienced things yourself to be able to tell stories about what has happened in the lives of others. That’s the big secret and, at the same time, it has to be the only way to get better each and every time we go on stage.

Everybody’s stories attract our attention and we want to tell them, and that’s the reason we keep on producing new shows. We still have a lot to say and a lot of stories to tell. We reproduce imaginary worlds, we adapt tales written by other authors and, little by little, we create a universe of our own that we would like to share with the whole world.

SCURA SPLATS does theatre and that’s why we use languages that are mainly defined by space, such as a street, a theatre, a sports hall, a market, a bench, and so forth. We then play with those spaces and turn them into elements that go to make up the great theatrical metaphor. Anywhere is suitable to represent the loneliness or the joy of human beings. That is also why we study and create theatrical norms, which are later questioned and… we start again.

SCURA SPLATS makes theatre its way of life. We like being on the road. We want to go on the road and get to meet new friends of the theatre and of those who do theatre in each town and village we visit.

SCURA SPLATS is a company with its own repertoire that was born at the end of the 20th century but feels very much at home in the 21st century.

SHOWS:

CORRAL KAOS

CHARACTERISTICS
Itinerant show for audiences of all ages. Street theatre in which the audience is encouraged to take part. Choreographed sequences with jumping stilts, games and lots of fun.

PLOT
The chickens and hens in a chicken coop have fallen prey to a strange disease known as feather plague. Unless a solution is found soon, they will surely all die. The only way to find a remedy is to get hold of the Vade-mecum that is hidden in a remote place that can only be reached by entering the forbidden labyrinth. The vicissitudes of the hens, the strength of the chicken and the participation of everyone in the audience will help them to eventually find a solution to the terrible disease that was killing off all the animals in the coop.
CORRAL KAOS is dedicated to all those animals that make human life a little more human. And to our parents for letting us act like animals. And also to our friends for their friendship and to our enemies, just in case.

FACTUM FLAMMA

CHARACTERISTICS
Itinerant show that features the CORREFOCS technique. The fire is carried through the streets to spark the active participation of the audience, who find themselves enveloped in the rhythm of the original music and the pyrotechnical explosions. The urban space is transformed and the audience is caught up in the festive spiral of fire.

PLOT SYNOPSIS
The Sus Scrofa tribe have lost their fire and do not know how to make it. The only way to create it is to look for a volcano. Without fire they are at the mercy of wild animals and the elements. Eventually and totally by chance, a lightning strike provides them with the fire they need and they carry it back to their village. On their way home they are attacked by wild beasts, the wrath of the gods and the cold. Luckily, and to the audience’s delight, sparks continually spill forth from the fire. The mission arrives back at the village, the fire is placed in its temple and the villagers hold the final ritual to prevent the fire from ever disappearing again. The music, the songs, the dances with fire and the imposing firework display bring to an end a frenetic, festive performance in which any and everyone can take part.

FLIT

CHARACTERISTICS
FLIT is an itinerant show that can be put on in PARADES and STREET EVENTS where the actors perform dances and the most incredible twists and twirls on stilts or skates.

PLOT
FLIT is a visual event in which some normally tiny little things have become huge, monstrous and beautiful all at the same time.
FLIT is a “festive wasps’ nest” featuring a spider that keeps hitting out with its legs in an attempt to catch the wasps. But the wasps, who are really clever, do not fall into her trap… unlike the audience, who get caught up in the spider’s web and have to shout and wave their arms to get out from under it if they want to avoid falling prey to the spider.
The wasps use their poisonous stings to squirt bursts of water over the members of the audience.
FLIT consists of: 7 wasps on skates or stilts, 1 giant spider and 1 mobile 2400 w sound system.
With FLIT, SCURA SPLATS turns the streets into a giant microscope allowing us to observe these dangerous but funny flying insects.

MACROSCOPI

CHARACTERISTICS
Air shapes

PLOT
Itinerant show designed for parades. In MACROSCOPI everything is colossal, which means that the elements used can all be seen from a long way away.

Following along the line laid down by FLIT, with MACROSCOPI Scura Splats turns into a giant microscope. It shows the world of insects at a scale that is much greater than real life. MACROSCOPI is a show in which the smallest parts of nature are magnified until they become monstrously big but at the same time breathtakingly beautiful. The sheer size and array of colours used in MACROSCOPI give rise to the most fantastic elements:

The CENTIPEDE:
an impressive inflatable mobile 10 m long by 4 m high which rests on three platforms that are hooked up to a mini-tractor that pulls it along.

The SNAIL:
a likeable element that sprays water out of its horns. A giant ladybird rides the snail to guide it as if she were a jockey. The colossal size and colourful design of the character make it one of the most popular among the youngest members of the audience.

The SPIDER:
spectacular and funny. This is one of the animals that arouses a great deal of fears in our subconscious mind and that is why, theatrically, we turn it into an alluring but at the same time fearsome element.

The GIANT LADYBIRDS:
mounted on jumping stilts with their incredible leaps and bounds over the heads of both children and adults.

One of the characteristics of the inflatables is the lighting inside them, which makes the parade even more spectacular if performed at night.
